The story behind the Greek Project
In 2018, we launched a fundraiser to support our very first official project as a team: The Big Picture Story Bible. What followed was beyond our expectations. Not only did we raise the full amount—we ended up with a surplus.
Because so many people had given generously to support Greek-speaking communities and believed in the importance of Christian resources in our language, we felt a deep responsibility to steward the extra funds wisely. After much research and consideration, two books stood out as the right next step: Goodbye to Goodbyes and The Friend Who Forgives. Both are beautifully written, Christ-centered stories that help children engage with biblical truth in meaningful ways.
Goodbye to Goodbyes is a story that brings tears to our eyes every time we read it—it still does. It tells the story of the resurrection of Lazarus. In Greece, this story is quite well known. Most Greeks learn about it in school, and even if they don’t, they’re likely familiar with the phrase “Lazarus, come out!”—which we actually use (in ancient Greek!) in everyday life. However, many people don’t know the full story, and most wouldn’t naturally connect it to the death and resurrection of Christ, or to the hope we have in Him. This book connects the dots in the most tender and powerful way. It gently inspires children (and adults!) to find hope, even in the midst of saying goodbye to those they love.
The decision was made, the translations soon completed—and by 2019, the Priscilla team had two more books published. It was then that we began to realize: maybe this is more than a project. Maybe this is our calling.
